Change Your Brain .. Walk with Me in the Rain
Healthy = Being + Doing + Sharing. Plan regular daily trips to “Healthy” using activity. Prepare for your daily healthy living by taking your bodies outside … walking and talking. Being in the moment and sharing.
Being alive means being present in the moment.
Be active in the experience of your life. Portland, Oregon sees a lot of rain, but no matter, the runners, walkers, bicyclists, and even the dog walkers are out in it, doing what they do. Yes, we get wet. Smiling… we see one another, say “hello,” nod or smile and keep on moving in the rain. We adjust our thinking for what we choose. Doing these activities feels good in our bodies. On the beach, in the city or the forest, birds and animals are fine in the rain, so let’s take you. Click here at Portland Afoot for some ideas about walking in the area.
Doing a run, riding a bike, walking helps your body inside as you enjoy the outside.
Enliven your systems! Your lymphatic system supports immunity and absorbs the toxins, but you need to be active to keep it flowing. Lymph systems move when you do, muscle action with the skeletal movement supports you in clearing out the toxins. Your muscles and blood need the air to create the energy to flow through you. As you move you breathe and get oxygen flowing inside. Oxygenated brains make you more fun and smarter. Thinking, talking, moving, and sharing enliven your creativity, too.
Sharing the walk in the rain is beautiful.
“It’s so green, fresh and lovely here!” Look around. Walk quietly for a while. Stop and appreciate something. Look out into the distance. Feel the air. Sense it. Listen to birds in trees, look up. Find the birds. Where is that birdsong coming from? Inhale and smell deeply. What is that? Share what you are noticing with a little conversation, “Oh, look! A beautiful plant over there.” The path to conversation is here in your experience of the walk.
Experiencing our walking path, we like to see it clean and clear.
So, we plan for this clarity, bringing small bags to pick up along the way, helping keep our neighborhood pleasant. We walk for 15 minutes or so… and on the way back … bend over here or there … picking up stuff. This stuff is evidence that others leave of themselves on our path and includes candy wrappers; drink cans, cigarette packages, clothing (t-shirts, socks, gloves, shoes, and once we found trousers), as well as receipts for purchases of food, medicine, bus fair, and prescriptions. Visitors to the hospitals that we walk by park along the path. We suspect that they don’t realize the life around them here. Oh, well. The next walk will be cleaner tomorrow. Sometimes people notice what we’re doing and say, “Thank you.” We say, “Thank you for noticing.” Along the way is a trashcan and we release our bags … the stuff of others along the way … feeling good inside with the knowledge and movement of our walk.
Ready. Set. Go! You can go with us in your mind first, then your body.
Tonight, before you go to sleep, plan on getting up early and going on a walk to healthy with me in the rain. If the sun is shining… it’s okay. Portlanders call rain “liquid sunshine.” However you view it… is all in the mind. Remember: Sharing + Doing + Being = Healthy.

How do you make a dream come true? What makes it possible to be of more service to a human, even when they are a continent away? Coaching. It is not consulting, not therapy, not training, it is a specific way to guide people, and still allow them to own all their ideas. You are so much more than you know.
How did Apositiva’s Coaching Certification class come about? Cat Wilson, Rich Aanrich, Dr. Marci Nemhauser and Michelle Rios were all a part of the development of our coaching course. It is Board Certified by CCE, and thereby accredited for counselors, professionals, etc. who want this additional stamp of approval. Our coaching course includes Life Coaching, Transformational, Executive Coaching, Health Coaching, and Vision Coaching.

Happy Valentines Day and Despicable Me!
Open your eyes, blink, open. Surprise! Happy Valentines Day to You! I Like You. I Like Me. All the staff at Apositiva also want to wish you a day to enjoy yourself and others with a loving thought!
Hey! We are who we are and we all deserve to be loved, even with flaws. As we begin with appreciating ourselves as human beings we can feel better by trying to “love our self” and others. It’s odd how when stuff happens, we impose lots of rules on others … and yet somehow the person in love doesn’t see all the flaws. What about those rules that we impose on others, you say?
In the movie “Despicable Me,” the mad scientist (or the good guy bad guy) adopts a trio of little girls. Upon arriving at his weird home with a monsterous dog (dog?) and lots and lots of minions, he brings the new members of his family into the kitchen, the children are given ground rules in the movie Despicable Me.
Rule Number 1, “You will not touch anything.”
Rule Number 2, “You will not bother me while I’m working.”
Rule Number 3: You will not cry, or whine, or laugh, or giggle, or sneeze or barf or fart! So, No No No annoying sounds.”
Agnes replies, “Does this count as annoying?” and and makes popping and funny sounds with her hands on the side of her face.
Agnes is adorable in the best scenes in Despicable Me, even when she plays childhood tricks and prays for a mommy and daddy who have a pet unicorn and a house made out of gummy bears. Unrealistic? Sure, but it makes you smile, doesn’t it? When the girls mischieviously pull pranks he falls in love with them. (Despite the rules, they giggle a lot.) It’s a joyous personal growth to watch them all learn how to live together and love together.
SPECIAL GIFT FOR YOU OR LOVED ONES. It’s time to pause for your time. Why not give yourself a little love and joyous personal growth? Attached to this blog is a special gift certificate for $20 off any session or workshop. It’s good for ten (10) days. Our little Valentines Gift for you! Call us to schedule your time or sign up for fun workshops at 503-525-0595.
Sweet thoughts to you and yours on this day! From Cat, Rich, Cindy & Gang
Advice for Seeking a Fresh Start
Who knows better than the person who has lost everything in how to get a fresh start?! Life, business, and relationship. The challenge, however, is that we naturally gravitate to what we know. How do we seek a fresh start?
If you want to find a new relationship you may start looking in the same place you met your last partner. Or you may find yourself looking for someone with the same color hair, similar hobbies, or common social sites. Perhaps you didn’t much want to repeat the relationship so you look for the opposite.
Seeking a fresh start means that you are on a new path. Years ago, I was finishing my degree and started thinking about a new relationship. My mind went to all the people I had loved and become close. Happy feelings and some not as resourceful came to mind. I began picturing in my mind who would be wonderful to be in time with now. My initial description for this person included this statement:
- “One who is playful, loves sitting with tea or coffee, humorous, enjoys walks and dancing, interested in sharing family, someone who listens, and wants to be listened to in conversation, sees our togetherness as respectful and growing, and tells me “I love you,” and wants to work and play together.”
Defining the Highest and Best You
My description had some traits of those I’d already been in relationship with, but it also gave me an opportunity to begin with some new traits. Fortunately, I met “the one” and we’ve been together a long time. I say fortunately and I felt that it took courage to prosper in my relationship. Our relationship has prospered! Being happy is so important, and it’s something we learned to appreciate helping others to find, too. Are you going to do what you did before when you start again? Or are you ready for something more? Could you be someone who is searching for the one and seeking a fresh start? If so, we have have something fun for you.
We create baggage, and sometimes it’s in our mind. Not in reality, but we create a lackluster future for ourselves in our life, because our thoughts are stuck. Before you seek the fresh start, remember to “create a higher, more courageous and fresher you.” Maximize your joy and prosperity of thinking higher thoughts. Your attraction vibration will rise, a smile will be on your face, and you’ll be ready for “the one.”
Self help books can provide advice. The New York Times printed an article on seeking a fresh start and you might enjoy the books to help you along the path. Click here. In the selections of books, you will find a book called The Beauty Experiment, Wheat Belly Cookbook, and Making Habits, Breaking Habits. All looked inspiring!

Take a Breath
1. When the world feels like it’s toppling down on you, and you feel bound, take a breath.
2. If the kids are insane, and you can’t find your brain, take a breath.
3. As you reach for those substitutes that you use to think give a boost, take a breath.
4. People are people, and can blast down your steeple, so… take a breath.
5. Time is pressing and with you life is majorly messing, so… that’s right! Take a breath.
Five good breaths can make the difference. Sit in a chair among plants, take a walk, or pretend you are in a sunny spot, and breathe.
Next time the event of the moment gets to you, give yourself five good breaths (10 is even better!) and let it go. The world will be brighter, you’ll be more of who you really are, and it’s really all about becoming you, the highest and best possible you!
How to Get More …
Roses. Sweet, beautiful, a symbol of love. Right there in front of us. Are you noticing the roses?
What we notice in our foreground (what is right in front of us) may be different than what we notice in our background (behind us). One view may be out of our focus because we are “internal” and processing ideas or feelings. We may not notice what else is around us, but what if we could become more “present”?
If we are feeling worried or angry, sad, unfocussed, we can “shift” to the place where we want.
Sit with me for a few moments and play. That’s right … let’s play. Let’s say I’m working on a project and I run out of ideas. I am staring at the paper, expecting another idea to surface. NLP Practitioners know that we can “shift” by turning our attention to another location. Our mind discovers more, creates more, brings us more! Below is an exercise in “Eye Accessing,” and can give you more perspective and break a “state” that is less resourceful and give you more resources in a matter of seconds!
Simple Eye Accessing Exercise:
o Look up and to the right (Create Visual)
o Shift eyes to ear level and move left and right and left and right and listen (Hear)
o Look down to lower left and ask, “What am I Thinking?” (Internal Thought)
o Look down to right and ask, “Hmmm… what do I feel?” (Body Sense)
o Look up to right and create a better picture (Desired View)
o Look lower left and create a new thought (I can)
o Look upper right, see it, look upper left, store it! (Saved in Library)
How did that go for you?
Did you get a new perspective? Did you see or hear something different? Have you noticed more of your foreground (in front of you) or background (around you)?
Okay! Now that you’ve begun to create a newer and better view. You may have some higher ideas. Perhaps your foreground and background will look different now? This is why people come to Apositiva for NLP Training in Portland – because you can learn “how to fish” for your own resources.
Learning how to smell the roses is a good beginning!
Using simple and effective experiential exercises YOU can “shift” from one “state” to another “state” of experience that gives you what you want. How? By learning how to apply yourself better. Learning how to smell the roses is a good beginning! Have you tried the Portland Rose Gardens? Click here for a lovely view and song at the Portland Rose Gardens site! You can imagine how extraordinary a rose is, or can be, or how amazing some become. Getting a real rose in your view can convince you that if it is possible for this, then it is possible for another rose to achieve such beauty. This is true for you, too. (smile)

Visual Recording is Eye Candy
Imagine students sitting and listening to a lecture on changing beliefs. Some of the participants doodled, some used colorful pens and took notes, and some mind mapped their speaker’s lecture. It’s all good here!
In this class were educators, retired doctors, sales people, holistic healers, business executives, and others who were interested in the topic discussed. What was interesting about this group is that they all shared, collaborated, and grew ideas out of the lecture with fun visuals. Students later reported they remembered more with Cat Wilson’s visual recording of the lecture which the instructor created during the lecture.
Mind mapping and Visual Recording have been used for training at Apositiva for over 10 years. Based in Portland, Oregon in the Johns Landing area, Cat Wilson and Dr. Marci Nemhauser teach coaches how to use processes to help coaching clients. They include visual recording processes in the experiential learning process because it enhances memory and creativity. Students frequently snap photos with phones and ipads and e-pads to print out with their notes. People report that they remember so much with these fun diagrams.
When Cat and Rich Aanrich give NLP and Hypnosis Training in Portland, Oregon they present classes in several classrooms of their center. Enhanced with music, videos and lots of pens and paper the classes are enriching and deliciously fun!
Culture is changing more rapidly. Businesses such as Standard Insurance, Tri-Met, as well as training consultants, have called upon Cat to help with team building and brain storming using visual processes to help create connection. It is true that computer graphic interfaces have charting programs, and yet there is a creative and intuitive element to the hands on process that seems to bridge problems to solutions.
We could tell you, but we’d rather show you. Call Cat and she will offer you a cup of tea and 30 minutes of a free sample of this Eye Candy.

It’s Your Time. Why Not Begin Now?
Cures, Exercises, Stress
How does Ginger become the stuff in a jar? It’s a process. By the way, how are your processes done? What do you think about Cures, Exercises, and Stress? Are you are needing attention in these areas? Perhaps you are seeking a higher level of living. Maybe you are in a place where the experience you are having is simply overwhelming your humanity. You are a valuable human being… here are some positive ideas.
Cures for diseases are the job of physicians. People who come in as commandos to rifle the enemy or negotiate peace talks. Bob, a friend of mine, has what he calls the man Cancer. Prostate Disease. It is there. Inside him. He doesn’t understand it, so he asks questions. His medical team says, “Cut it out, radiate it, kill it now!” Bob wondered why each had a different style of annihilating this island growing inside of his body. However, he just felt that there were more options. Was there another cure? And… how did it get there to begin with and was there anything else causing havoc inside his physical/mental body? Time to get more information… and a second opinion, and check out alternative medicine.
One medical professional says straightforward, “Genetics. Statistics.” The conversation could then follow the path of “to cure it, kill it.”
Another expert might ask, “in your life, what and how much do you eat, exercise and what stress are you feeling?” A path could then be, “Change and let’s watch and see.”
Thoughts. “How are you thinking,” asked a life coach, “when you go through your life? Happy? Focused? Excited about life?”
Bob talked about how the conversations opened up his review of his life balance. Yes, he had put on a few pounds, but… (the excuses are many). “It’s hard to exercise and never enough time to eat or cook the right meals, and the news will tell you about stress.”
It is 2012 and we have many ways. You have more choice in the US and many other countries are forward thinking to help you go and create balance in your life. If there is a “dis-ease” in your body, then you can create more ease using a variety of steps. First, take a review of how you live.
Here is a list of my common foods:
Here is how I exercise:
When I am feeling stressed in the moment I do this for myself:
Smoking is a no-brainer. The greatest benefit is to the businesses that “help you smoke.” Change it. You can. You can make a positive change in one hypnotherapy session with Rich Aanrich or Cat Wilson. Realize that the effect will benefit you in gaining freedom, health and mental balance. Secondhand smoke exposure has resulted in an estimated 46,000 heart disease deaths and 3,400 lung cancer deaths just among nonsmoking people (adults) in the U.S. every year, according to the studies at the American Cancer Society. Change those statistics with one call… a call for you.
Exercise can make the rhythm of your body surge with positive changes in vitality! Bob immediately studied exercise for his cancer. What happened? His PSA went down. Reading studies gave him inspiration, and learning self-hypnosis at Apositiva kept him on the path and motivated. Guess what? His weight dropped. He found time. He found exercises that worked with his busy work and personal life. So many things changed, including the sadness and anxiety he had begun to feel changed to elated joy! Being out with others actively moving assured him he was not alone in his journey to better health and balance.
“Dis-ease” is stress filled. Find what is “dissing” you and you can start to unravel the hard ball. Hypnotherapy brings amazing relaxation to mind, body and spirit for many men and women. There are so many ways that each person can usually find a way that works for them. Yet, we have many ways. You may discover that Emotional Freedom Technique is the tapping experience that brings you release. Learning this effective tool can change your response to anxious moments and give you back a peaceful mind… for peaceful thinking.

Lost In Innerspace
Many people notice life changes when the sun hides out behind all the gray skies for extended periods. Others find it happening after some change in their life. Anything from moving, job changes, relationship changes or not having a relationship, thwarted dreams, plans or goals. There are lots of reasons aren’t there?
Have you felt yourself spinning in space, seemingly stuck or not moving at all or floating aimlessly? Innerspace is a big place and our unconscious mind is not limited to the small cavity inside our head … it has infinite space to store things as well.
Supposing any of the above is true for you, what can you do to change?
Ahh… good question. So glad you asked! The really good news is, according to some very insightful people (Buddha, spiritual leader; Abe Lincoln, President; William James, father of American Psychology), our realities are a sort of ‘mental construct’ in which we unconsciously create our programs or patterns virtually every moment.
Now back to being Lost in Innerspace. Good news! There are ways to work with the mind to create more resourceful or useful patterns and programs! You can gain direction and control of those areas that have gotten away from you. How might someone make those wonderful changes and have life feel more meaningful or connected again? The answer might surprise you and then again for many people it will be of course.
You can learn to make those wonderful changes. I would like to show you how to use something that is designed to get past the conscious mind and work where the ‘mental constructs’ are happening. We work together by using a proven process. Hypnotherapy and it’s cousin NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) can be amazing ships to help you navigate your Innerspace. You can redesign or redefine your Innerspace. Let me show you how.
Discover more on how to work with your own Innerspace. Connect with me. Call Rich at Apositiva for Counseling, Coaching and Training at 503-525-0595 or email Rich I would look forward to being your guide.
